Nikkolos Mohammed’s practice reclaims hybrid identities through creating hybrid forms. These three works belong to a recent body of research exploring the idea of courtship between rivals: the rhythm of being in complete sync, the balance of each role, and the legacies they create. Mohammed interprets courtship as a vast space of tension between romance and athleticism in which seemingly disparate feelings and actions coexist: communication, the pursuit of the chase, and the struggle of sharing oneself. In that process of discovery, the artist finds a labor of engagement – a fight for the rebound for another opportunity at love. Equally, the defense of one’s insecurities is the greatest defense on the court. Courtship is where practice and game time become one.

Nikkolos Mohammed is a fine artist based out of Los Angeles, California. He received his BA Fine Arts Degree from Otis College of Art and Design in 2013. In 2014, he and fellow artist Mike Reesé founded DREAMHAUS, a non-profit organization and multifaceted art collective dedicated to implementing arts as an educational tool and a vehicle toward universal innovation in South Los Angeles. Recent solo exhibitions include New Low, Los Angeles. Mohammed also serves as a writer and editor for publications such as Hypebeast. As a visual maker, he has collaborated with brands such as Coors Light in a global campaign, the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) for a social justice cause,  and has featured works in television and film sets.
