On the occasion of Possession Obsession, artist Carlos Reyes presents two works from his series PROMESA (Sarah) in which acquired jewelry display panels are placed in aluminum frames revealing their nuanced color and exposing the tracks left by the jewelry that once inhabited these surfaces. The deep red pigment of these panels has faded while displaying pendants, necklaces, and earrings at their original Lower East Side location: Sarah Jewelry, 122 Delancey Street, New York, NY 10002. What is left is the discoloration of the sun-bleached velvet and the naturally resulting shapes of the missing jewelry. The absence of the collectable objects becomes the collection itself, exposing the transient nature of desire.
